Embedded Linux Engineer

Gliwice, PolandHybridOtherMidPosted 20 OCT 2026

KP Labs is looking for an Embedded Linux Engineer to build and maintain the Yocto-based Linux distribution for its on-board data processing units.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the reference Linux distribution for our on-board data processing units: Yocto layers, machine configurations, distro configuration and image recipes
  • Integrate the IP cores of the platform into the running system: device trees and overlays, drivers, bootloader configuration and the boot chain from power-on to userspace
  • Write and maintain recipes for our own applications and services
  • Configure the runtime: init system, networking, filesystem layout, storage and firmware update paths
  • Keep the build reproducible in CI and the layers updated against their upstream releases
  • Write integration tests in Python for the images and services
  • Bring up new hardware revisions together with the electronics and FPGA teams
  • Prepare and maintain build, configuration and integration documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electronics, Automatic Control, Telecommunications or a related technical field
  • Commercial experience with Linux on custom embedded hardware, where the system is built from sources for the board it runs on
  • Practical knowledge of Yocto: layers, recipes, bbappends, machine and distro configuration, and debugging a failing build
  • Knowledge of C or C++, applied to userspace components, drivers and the kernel
  • Python, used to write integration tests for your own work
  • Experience with a CI system: builds and tests running automatically
  • Understanding of the Linux boot chain on an embedded platform: bootloader, device tree, kernel, init system
  • English sufficient to read documentation and standards, write technical documentation and take part in technical discussions with customers
  • Availability to work from our Gliwice office every Tuesday

Nice to have

  • Experience with an SoC that combines application cores with programmable logic, and with the Yocto layers its vendor provides
  • Experience with a build orchestration tool for Yocto, such as kas
  • Kernel work: writing or porting drivers, device tree bindings, debugging kernel panics
  • Familiarity with ECSS, CCSDS or other space industry standards
  • Automated tests running on hardware

  • Stable employment in a growing technology company delivering international projects
